Making Tax Vocabulary
Readable for Everyone
We started Cashen because plain-language tax education in Malaysia was hard to find. Our programmes help individuals read documents more confidently — nothing more, nothing less.
Back to HomeHow Cashen Came About
Cashen was founded in Kuala Lumpur by a small group of educators and tax professionals who noticed a consistent gap: most Malaysians filing their own personal tax returns did not fully understand what the form fields were asking. The vocabulary was technical, the official guidance sparse, and the pathway to finding a professional was not always obvious or affordable.
Rather than compete with qualified tax practitioners, we set out to do something different — to help individuals become more comfortable reading their own documents, recognise common terms, and understand what categories generally mean, so that conversations with professionals could be more productive, or so that official guidance would make more sense when read directly.
Since our first workshop at this Jalan Ampang address, we have worked with individuals at varied stages — fresh graduates filing for the first time, mid-career professionals with more complex personal income, and retirees reviewing their situation. The common thread is a desire to understand, not to be handed an answer.
Our Mission
To make personal tax vocabulary accessible and readable for individuals in Malaysia through structured, honest, general-information education — without overstepping into regulated advisory territory.
Our Approach
We build sessions around annotated sample documents rather than abstract definitions. We always point participants toward official LHDN references and qualified professionals for personal situations. We frame everything as general information.
Our Commitment
We do not make outcome promises of any kind. We treat every participant as a capable adult who deserves clear, honest information to make their own decisions.
Our Team
A small team with complementary backgrounds in adult education, tax documentation and content design.

Standards We Hold Ourselves To
Clear Scope of Information
All sessions are clearly framed as general educational information, not personalised tax guidance. We do not cross into regulated advisory territory.
Accurate Source References
All vocabulary and document references are checked against publicly available LHDN materials before each programme cycle.
Participant Data Privacy
Participant information is collected only for programme administration and communication. It is not shared with third parties for marketing.
Small Group Sizes
We keep session groups small to allow time for vocabulary questions and to ensure no participant is left with unanswered reading queries.
Regular Content Review
Programme materials are reviewed periodically against current official Malaysian tax documents to reflect any updates in form structure or terminology.
Post-Session Feedback
We collect participant feedback after every session and use it to refine explanations, update annotated examples and improve the overall experience.
Tax Literacy Matters for Everyday Individuals
Personal tax filing in Malaysia involves terminology that many individuals encounter only once a year, under some pressure, without a straightforward plain-language reference to hand. Words like "aggregate income", "chargeable income", "exempt income" or "statutory income" appear on official forms, yet their day-to-day meaning is rarely explained outside of professional contexts.
Cashen's work sits in this gap. We are not positioned to help anyone with their individual tax situation — that is the proper role of a registered tax agent or accountant. What we can do is help someone arrive at that professional conversation with a much clearer sense of what the forms are asking, what categories exist, and what documentation habits tend to make filing simpler.
Understanding a tax document is a reading skill. It involves vocabulary, an awareness of form structure, and a working knowledge of how categories relate to each other. These are learnable things. Our programmes treat them as such — with patience, with annotated examples, and with a consistent pointer back to official sources whenever a participant wants to verify anything.
For individuals in Kuala Lumpur and beyond, we believe that being better informed about the vocabulary of personal taxation is genuinely useful — not because it replaces professional guidance, but because it makes that guidance easier to access, understand and act on.
